Gemstone Winds

Beyond the Solar System,
in the Cygnus constellation,
a hot Jupiter orbits,
enormous, gaseous planet
of intense light and heat
locked face to face
with its parent star in space.
Colossal clouds of corundum,
a ruby and sapphire conundrum
of unimaginable tone,
are blasted by fickle, violent winds,
hot as hell and cool as diamonds.

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Open Link Night

I am fascinated by space and was inspired by an article I read on Sciencealert today.

  1. “Hot as hell and cool as diamonds”. Love this line — could apply to so many things besides space — relationships, a sneer….
    Wonderful galactic post! 😊

    1. Merry Christmas, Gayle, and I’ll see you back at the Poets Pub when the festivities are over! Look out for a man dressed in a coat the colour of corundum (that’s where the word ‘cor – al’ comes from)!
