Pigeons pace like commuters in the station,
pick up the pace in the face of a surge
of humans through the barrier, who face
another day of going through the motions,
going about their business like pigeons,
pigeons that pace, commuters at a station.

My response to The Poetry School’s NaPoWriMo Prompts Day 1: The Chain
The Poetry School has asked us to scrabble through our notebooks for an abandoned line — one that never went anywhere, or that we never found a poem for. It doesn’t matter where we find it, but it should be a line we feel has untapped potential. This will be our first line. For our second line, we can write anything, but it must include one word from the first line. Our third line should include one word from the second line, and so on. In every line, we should pluck just one word from the line above until our poem reaches its end.
Nicely done. Good start to your NatPoWriMo!
