Summer permeates a single layer of cotton:
a fluttering dress, a baggy shirt or colourful sarong.
Unwrapped from woollen layers, we can breathe,
clothed in flags of freedom, rippled by the breeze.
On the beach, the sea sparkles and lures us in;
we bare our bodies and the sun smiles on our warm skin.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Tuesday Platform
After a couple of weeks of struggling to meet an exam marking deadline to earn some extra money, I’m glad to say it’s over and I can get back to doing what I love – writing. I’ve missed you all and I’ve missed reading your work.
I’d like to join Kerry in wishing HAPPY 4TH OF JULY to all our American friends.
I’d also like to thank Kerry for sharing the inspirational video of the charity song for the victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster.
Finally, I’m excited about the first of the collaborations. I haven’t had a chance to think about them and am looking forward to working with my partner – am I allowed to say who it is?
The poem I’m sharing this Tuesday is a short one (just six lines) that I developed from a haiku I wrote this morning in response to a prompt from Carpe Diem Haiku Kai.
Love it, wish for some weather for summer clothes…

Thanks Bjorn! What’s happened to the weather? We’ve had a few grey days but today was bright and warm. Tomorrow would have been my mum’s eightieth birthday so I don’t care what the weather will be – I’m going to be keeping myself busy so I don’t brood.

I read that it was 23C in London today, coincidentally about 22C here.. I was dressed for winter down to my socks. Strange how we perceive such things as seasons and temperatures.

I agree, Kerry! We have a friend in Spain who said it was recently 38C, a temperature I don’t think I have ever experienced. 25C is hot enough for me 🌞

North Norfolk sounds cool by definition. Ha. In the summer we average 35C for at least 2 months and 40C is not uncommon. I guess Africa is hot by definition.

What better illustration for such a warm poem than a Vettriano painting!

This is such a lovely anthem to the freedom of summer clothing, and seriously an antidote to all the messages about how our bodies and not appropriate to be exposed. So, thank you for that! I’m going to soak up some sun. 🙂

Thank you, Marian! Enjoy the sun. We have thunder, lightning and rain at the moment but I think it’s starting to ckear. 😊🌞🌂
