Weeds and Paper Lanterns

dandelion plants
seeds blown on the roadside
pissing in the wind

fading summer moon
outshone by paper lanterns
tangled in the trees

My response to Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation #26 Revise That Haiku

This weekend our challenge is a new ‘Revise That Haiku’ feature, in which the goal is to ‘revise’ the haiku of well-known haiku poets, classical and non-classical. This weekend we have two haiku by classical haiku poets who brought haiku into the 20th century:

nonchalantly pissing
off the side of the road
soaking the young weeds

 © Santoka Taneda (1882-1940)

and

the summer moon
there are a lot of paper lanterns
on the street

© Masaoka Shiki (1867-1902)

I have also written a ‘fused’ version.
