Green with it

the sky is milky
on the overhead cables
pigeons are as lazy
as the day
grass drips with rain
leftovers
from the night before
even the breeze
doesn’t have the energy
to whip up a few branches
snatch off a handful of blossom
and me
I have to get up and get out
face the traffic into town
and my eyes are as green
as the garden

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads NaPoWriMo Virtue or Vice

For today’s prompt, Rommy would like us to consider virtues and vices, or more specifically the Seven Deadly Sins or the Seven Heavenly Virtues. She reminds us that the Seven Deadly Sins are Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride and the Seven Heavenly Virtues are Chastity, Temperance, Charity, Diligence, Patience, Kindness and Humility. Our poems must be new for this prompt and include at least one of the names of the Virtues or Vices.

  1. Though it is Envy that’s alluded to in the end, a fair case can be made for Sloth. The description puts me in mind of sticky warm Pennsylvania summertime, and while molasses may be slow in winter, people move pretty slow on days like those.

    1. Today is strangely slow even though I’m busy. I’ve just slowed down between jobs and I feel like I’m moving in molasses! The garden has perked up though and it’s very busy with pheasants and other birds.

      1. I imagine inertia’s pull is strong, especially if there is a pretty garden that needs tending. Sadly I already see the bindweed popping up in mind and I have to get to it soon.
