Light Stories

We spend our lives
unhooking the moon,
trying to release
all the light we cannot see.
We look for knives
and find only silver spoons
to carve the cheese
from her lunar seas.
In the end we are bereft
and we are left
with the particular sadness
of lemon cake, too sour
upon our moon-kissed
lips, too sweet to be missed.

Magaly is our host today and, for the 13th day of Poems in April, she invites us to write new poems that include 3 book titles (each title must contain at least 3 words, and we must not rearrange or delete any of the words). We can choose titles from our favourite books or follow a link to Goodreads. We should list our chosen titles.

 I used the following titles to create an almost-sonnet:

  5. I love so many things about this poem that I can’t stop grinning. 😀

    First, I love the titles you chose–the first two are a gift of imagery, the last is that too (and is by an author whose writing I enjoy, so double yay!). Then I like the loose rhyme playing throughout the poem, the progression of the theme, the little voice that tells me–as I go from line to line–that we must do what we can with what fate gives us, if we don’t have a knife to cut cheese… then make do (even enjoy) what can be scrapped with a silver spoon.

    Now, about that lemon cake…

  21. Wonderful! Some stunning and compelling lines in this.

    I have really enjoyed reading the work that has come out of the ‘3 title prompt. As I mentioned to both Magaly and Rommy, when I commented on their pieces: I love this ‘let’s-thrown-the-prevailing-patterns into the wind and see what happens’, sense of adventure with words. It has achieved some pretty spectacular results!
