This Snow

This mid-January morning
all the blemishes are covered
and soil scars have been stitched
by the dusty blackbird’s tracks.

Even the washing looks whiter,
not frozen stiff, but dancing, blown
by the wind that brought the snow.

  1. I love the image of the laundry dancing. It reminds me of my mom talking about how they hung wash out in the prairies in winter. It froze solid, then they brought it in and stood it around the house to thaw.

    1. Thank you, Brendan. By yesterday afternoon all that was left were tiny traces of snow and a very large snowman on the football pitch. He may still be there, but it’s too dark to see.
