Who’s that banging at the door?
I was asleep and awoke
with a snore.
There’s a terrify crashing in the trees,
and the wind is no longer
a gentle breeze:
it’s an ogre, firstly humming and growling,
then a screaming banshee,
whistling and howling.

It’s Monday again and, here at the dVerse Poets Pub, Punam is our host for the final Quadrille prompt of the year, inviting us to end 2024 with a bang!
Today we are writing poems of exactly 44 words, not including the title, including the word ‘bang’. Punam has shared some interesting excerpts from poems to inspire us. Mine is a quadrille for children.
Oh… that is such a terrifying sound, I can only imagine that banging. Only thing worse is if you sleep in a tent when the storm hits (which I have experienced)

We experienced Storm Darragh while I was babysitting my grandsons. The Christmas wreath on the front door kept making a tapping sound in the wind.

Kim, living near the water, you probably get a lot of that.
So happy you had a good time with the grands. They will wear you out for sure ❤

Thank you, Lisa. It’s been a stormy few days weatherwise, and I was sad to have to leave them.

Those are terrifying storm sounds Kim. What a change from the gentle wind to a growling ogre.

A great Q, Kim! It brings alive the fear a storm evokes in kids.
