I topple into the void of slumber And down a rabbit hole. At first, I fly Through scudding cumuli Of docile dreams And then, I crash Through thunderclouds Into noxious night terrors. I run barefoot through forests Of threatening thorns, Until the early hours, When skulking shadows Prod me into jagged wakefulness. My heavy-lidded eyes Are […]

October’s Wiles
She’s an earthy lass With curvaceous hips, Nutty skin, berry lips And a hint of sass. Ripe as autumn fruit With a trace of frosty rime, She’ll seduce you every time She comes around. A flick of russet And rouge smear of sunset, Bits of leaves in her hair, You’ll find her everywhere. © Kim M. […]
Self Creation
I am the water of winter seas: I freeze And the land frosts over. I am the wind in cloudy sails: I hone The rugged coasts and hills. I am the bark of ancient trees: I split And teem with growth. I am the poem of my soul: I speak And my words Soar like […]
Lunar Paradox
Like a prehistoric fly In amber, The man in the moon is trapped, A fossil in the skies Of October, Slowly fading from a smiling face To a winking eye. Like molten candle wax, A final spark And the man in the moon expires, A lunar paradox, Torn by bark, Birched by leafless branches And […]
A Tangled Twist of Blue
A twist of blue saxophone notes rose From the early morning arcade, Through the blank stare of dark windows And onto the tangled sheets of an unmade Bed, where he dreamed of her, Wondering if she’d changed, Remembering the way she looked at him That evening in the park, When he felt a spark. They […]
Because I am Still a Girl
Because I am still And always will Be a girl in my heart and soul I celebrate freedom To be me To be free To be strong To be right And sometimes To be wrong To learn To understand To reach out my hand And make a stand For other girls In this world Who […]
Autumn Swans
I am waiting For Bewick’s swans migrating After summer mating In windy Arctic wastes, Blowing in snow clouds from the north, Below them, glow of autumnal earth. Quite soon, A gentle trumpeting will fill the sky, Heralding cloud-white cheeks and breasts, And winter wildness. © Kim M. Russell, 2016 Image found on www.telegraph.co.uk My poem for imaginary […]
Ink
She tattoos the ticking seconds In five bar gates With her indelible Indian ink hands Time never waits Time never stands Still while she gropes with sightless fingers For yet another skin-tight space To sweep the hands and sardonic smile Off the timekeeper’s face. © Kim M. Morning Quadrille
Usually loathe to linger In a warm cloud of bedclothes, Admonished by the cold finger Of October morning light, I rose to the song of birds, Inky swirl of overcast sky And gentle tumble of words In a morning quadrille – So the day began. © Kim M. Russell, 2016 Another poem for dVerse Poets Pub […]
Busting Clouds
In rock-ribbed pools and sheen of shore, grey and white reflections meld into ice-blue cirrus skies. Wind tumbles in a cumulus of sighs, ripples silhouettes of crabs and shells, busting bits of bone and nimbus whales, exploding into fins, teeth, tails and sea clouds. © Kim M. Russell, 2016 My poem for dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille, […]
