Wish you were here where I am now,
no longer craving days without a row,
happy family games and fun
with Mr, Mrs and the children Bun.
No more nightmares in council flats,
where we couldn’t have dogs or cats;
no more wishing for trips away
to break the boredom of school holidays;
no more put-downs and sleepless nights.
Now I have green shadows and light,
sparkling water and big open skies,
so huge you wouldn’t believe your eyes.

My second response to dVerse Poets Pub Tuesday Poetics: Wish you were here.
I like the idea of sending a postcard to oneself.

Oh, Kim. This brings tears. To want to let your younger self know it’s all going to be okay is just so touching. Whew. This got me. Wonderful.

Is it my imagination, Kim, or are you the cat that got the cream?

Wouldn’t it be lovely to get a postcard telling you that everything will be alright? How wonderful.

This is beautiful Kim, I have seen it done in therapeutic writing sessions as letters to our younger selves and also as letters from our older selves to the person we are now :o) xxx

Letter from m y older self to me now – not sure I’m ready for that yet!

It is a great exercise if you ever want to try it, even if your older self is only ten years older than you are now :o) xxx

Maybe tomorrow – I’m too tired to write to myself at this time of night! I’m an early morning writer. 🙂

looking back on a younger self, thinking of the path taken or not traveled, the memories hold comfort and much reflection of the journey ahead. This was a beautiful note to self.

A poem with a tone of nostalgia for the present. If that makes any sense….

Interesting idea that sends me off into time travel conundrums. If you sent this postcard and your younger self received it then would she arrive in the same future you spoke of? Butterfly wing.

Probably not – she might have got here before me!

or given the knowledge you shared may have relaxed and thought it didn’t need ‘working’ for and got somewhere else entirely different….it’s an idea thta has ‘stories’ bursting out of it.

Something for another time – or to incorporate in a story or a novel.

I see all kinds of postcards here today…this is one I think we all would like to receive …and write for that matter.

One of the best thoughts I have come across for a postcard poem! We often speak to ourselves at times that are thought provoking or may be in a dilemma or sadness.. I do that!
This one’s really nice, Kim! 🙂
