a part
of her has always been
apart
a piecemeal woman
never
seen as a whole picture
always
a puzzle with missing bits of sky
or tree
or mind
or heart

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Just One Word: Apart
Marian is back and she has just one word – apart.
This is absolutely stunning, Kim! ❤️ She is suffering but nobody knows because she hides it somewhere deep inside. The last thing she wants is pity 🙂

Each of us is like that too…such a good expression of it. Is this like a concrete poem?

Thanks Larry. I suppose it is a kind of concrete poem.

Missing that part is what too many people has to live with… I think and hope there will be someone who will come calling with the missing pieces to give her.

I love a poem that tells and shows itself through shape and word. What a perfect puzzle of words and image. I’ve enjoyed very much how together, they tell a complete tale.

This makes me want to know how and why those pieces came to be missing. Did someone else cut them out or was it self-inflicted?

A bit of both, I think.

Kim, I like your “piecemeal woman” and could very easily become jealous of her. She doesn’t have to be on guard for offending or misunderstood. My Susie is to her Hubby, “that’s Susie.”

this makes me think of how we all see someone as a “part” – like a mother is also a daughter, a wife, a friend, a co-worker – so many “others” and the “whole” is rarely seen – as are all people really…

We also forget that some people feel like ‘spare parts’ and need our help to fit in.

The form works well here, like puzzle pieces spread out on a table. I wonder if it’s how she sees herself or how others see her? Is it perception? Is it her reality? Maybe she’s whole and just doesn’t see it.
